Welcome to yet another blog on be simply smart.
As you always know we decipher complicated and subtle things into much more easier and understandable language.
We would make you sound smarter among you're peers. We cover those topics which are a must go to topics for a casual discussion which are indeed profound
Eclipse is an astronomical event which occurs when an celestial body obscures it's counterpart in it's path which happens occasionally by passing into the shadow of another body or any other body passes through the view of the observer.
The term eclipse is most often used to describe either a solar eclipse, when the Moon's shadow crosses the Earth's surface, or a lunar eclipse, when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow.
Also eclipse may occur other than the involvement of earth or its moon. For eg a planet like Jupiter or saturn passing under the shadow of moon or their respective moons passing under their respective planet's shadow.
TYPES OF SHADOW
•The umbra, within which the object completely covers the light source.
•The antumbra, extending beyond the tip of the umbra, within which the object is completely in front of the light source but too small to completely cover it.
•The penumbra, within which the object is only partially in front of the light source.
A total eclipse occurs only when an observer is right beneath the umbra.
A annual eclipse happens only when a observer is directly under the bandwidth of antumbra
A partial eclipse happens when an observer is directly under the spectrum of penumbra.
SOLAR ECLIPSE
As observed from the Earth, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun. The type of solar eclipse event depends on the distance of the Moon from the Earth during the event.

The time to which solar eclipse lasts is approximately 7 minutes.
Also sometimes the moon is able to completely cover the sun's mass because the moon seems to be the size of the sun when observed from the earth.
LUNAR ECLIPSE
Lunar eclipses occur when the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow. This happens only during a full moon.

There are three types of lunar eclipses:
•Penumbral, when the Moon crosses only the Earth's penumbra
•Partial, when the Moon crosses partially into the Earth's umbra
•Total, when the Moon crosses entirely into the Earth's umbra.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO WEAR ECLIPSE GLASSES?
These is the question that many of has ponder upon let's dive into its importance.
When ever you see bright sun directly through your naked eye what happens is that the eye starts itching feels pain. It's because the iris contracts and sends signals to the brain ki "boss dard ho raha hai aakh baand karde".
This is not the case in time of solar eclipse.
When we directly see the eclipse without any protective gear what happens is that the iris isn't able to detect the severity of the sun rays and it doesn't experience pain.
But on the other hand the retina is constantly exposed to the sun rays which leads to permanent damage of retina and vision within minutes and u still don't feel pain because retina don't have nerve endings.
Thus protective sunglasses especially made for viewing eclipse is recommended to wear which have darker shades so it doesn't put strain on the eyes
Anecdote: [There was this french astrologer who set up a expedition to India to witness the Venus eclipse which was only visible from India. So he came to India with his huge bulky heavy machines and tools used to view the eclipse but unfortunately he left his main tool back their in his home town. To his luck he returned back to France and once again came back to India 2 years later for his observations. On the day the event was to be witnessed a huge black cloud came sailing just right above him. The cloud sailed away only a few moments later to realize that simultaneously the astrological event had happened. Such hard luck can be😔]
Next time a solar eclipse occurs observe your surroundings you may find out that the birds starts returning to their nests because they think it's evening.
*A quick note that eclipse also occurs in other fellow planets is our solar system. Of course I will not go deep into that but you can Google about it
